Everyone is going through something that you know nothing about. This is a commonly used phrase that you hear over and over again amongst friends and on various social media platforms. Quoted with gorgeous lettering and with perfect pastel colours behind them, making the statement look on trend.
Through some events in my own life and events in the media recently I really wanted to write this blog post and share some thoughts with you. Why? Because I think the louder we shout about how some behaviours are not ok online and how we can change that matters. Even if one person reads this and changes their behaviour then this is MORE than worth it.
Its important to remember what you are saying and who you are saying it to. When you are commenting online on someone’s social media content THINK about what you are saying and who you are saying it to. Both negative and positive comments have an effect on people. Positive comments can literally make someone’s day and brighten their whole mood, while negative comments can have such a negative effect on a person day and their mental health. If someone is already dealing with something personally (that you don’t know about) your negatives comments can have a detrimental effect.
Similarly it’s hugely important to build each other up, if you like something then share it, why wouldn’t you? It just a click of a button and it makes a HUGE difference to the content creator if you do.
Another thing I heard is to treat your Instagram feed like your morning newspaper, if you are following someone who is making you feel negative then UNFOLLOW them, Just move on and find someone else that does. The internet is a huge place and there will be someone out there to has the same taste in things that you do. It’s said a lot but not said enough, Instagram is just a highlight real of people’s lives. No one is going to post their fights with spouses or money troubles or family feuds all over social media. Everyone is posting their best bits.
If you are a content creator be encouraged! What you are doing and creating IS important and don’t be discouraged by the 1% of people who hide behind computer/phone screens and breed negativity. To those people… please THINK before you post negativity, it has a bug impact.
Spread kindness people.
In a world where you can be anything, BE KIND!
